Nationally recognized as a leader in school programming, IDTC’s educational programs are the cornerstone of each child’s development. Constant evaluation and examination of teaching techniques help us meet the ever changing needs of our students.
Committed to providing individual attention for all students, the clinical and educational staff work together to create an Individual Education Plan (IEP) for each and every student, assessing their specific needs to guide their educational path.
Echoing that commitment to individual attention, IDTC keeps class sizes small and highly staffed. Each classroom includes one certified teacher along with at least two teacher’s aides, providing an exceptionally high educational staff to student ratio with the ability to provide concentrated attention for students with intensive needs.
All teachers are certified by the State of Indiana in one or more of the following areas:
- General Education
- Learning Disabilities
- Mildly or Moderately Mentally Handicapped
- Emotionally Handicapped
- Severely/Profoundly Handicapped
From the moment children and young adults walk through the doors of IDTC, they know that they are set for a residential experience second to none. From the comfortable school and living environment, to the dedicated and caring staff, it truly is all about the kids.
Residents enjoy the safety of comfortable rooms, providing a personal space unique to IDTC. At meal times, residents are treated with specially prepared meals combining both their specific nutritional needs and great tasting food.
When it comes time for class, the teaching staff of IDTC creates a sensory-rich learning environment encompassing sensory integration, and sensory and vestibular stimulation. On-staff licensed Occupational Therapists and certified Speech Pathologists complement the teaching staff, providing the highest quality care available.
Program components include academic instruction, adaptive physical education, occupational therapy, pre-vocational and vocational training, speech and language therapy, and independent living skills training.
And of course it all has to be fun. Fun is paramount in the success of every child’s development, and recreational activities abound on the IDTC campus. Kids are given the opportunity to enjoy themselves with structured activities including walks, sports, arts and crafts, field trips, participation in Special Olympics and much more. They are also able to enjoy their leisure time by utilizing our playgrounds, recreation rooms and other activity areas.

IDTC’s commitment to providing the best in educational opportunities for dually-diagnosed individuals doesn’t stop with just our residents. Children who are able to remain living in their own homes, but are unable to be maintained in their community special education programs, are accepted from local area school districts to attend class on campus as Day Students.
Striving to help individuals achieve the highest level of independence possible, IDTC works with the student’s local school district with the goal of returning each child to his or her community school system following a successful period of therapeutic intervention and academic services.
