History
Prior to the advent of Indiana Developmental Training Center (IDTC), numerous children from Indiana were served at Oconomowoc Developmental Training Center (ODTC) in Wisconsin. For over 20 years, children from Indiana were placed at ODTC. The staff of ODTC had a vision, a mission, a commitment and the determination to bring the Indiana children home for treatment and services closer to home and their families. It was this relentless goal that resulted in the opening of the first Indiana site in Indianapolis.

IDTC Indianapolis opened in October of 1997. Many children from the Wisconsin facility were transferred to the Indiana site, and many new children were admitted. In a relatively short period of time, the need for such services was so great that IDTC opened a second site in Lafayette, Indiana in early 2000. In total, over 200 children and adolescents are currently being served in our Indiana programs.

IDTC is committed to compassionate, quality care and treatment.

FAQ’S

How long has IDTC been in existence?
IDTC-Indianapolis has been in operation since 1997. The Lafayette Campus opened in 2000.

What kinds of children do you serve?
IDTC specializes in the treatment of children, adolescents and young adults who are dually diagnosed with developmental disabilities and emotional disturbances. In addition, IDTC has specific expertise in dealing with a variety of low incidence syndrome disorders, rare genetic disorders, seizure disorders, and other neurologically handicapping conditions. IDTC also has expertise in working with children with autism and autism spectrum disorders.

What is the average length of stay?
Average length of stay is 9 months to 2 years.

How do you measure the success of your program?
One measure of success is that 90% of the children we serve leave our program and go to less restrictive environments, such as less restrictive residential settings, foster homes, group homes, or return to their own homes.

What happens if a child referred to you is not appropriate for your program?
If our programs are not appropriate to meet the child’s needs, we work with the family, guardian, and/or referring agency to facilitate a placement in a program that is better able to meet the child’s needs. In this way, we serve as a resource to referring agencies and families, and we attempt to keep well abreast of other resources available to meet every child’s needs.

What if I don’t have funding for a child’s placement?
IDTC Admissions staff will work with the family and/or guardian to identify possible funding sources, and will work with the family to identify and connect with potential funding/placement resources in their State, County, or local area.
