Our Vision

To be the provider of choice for individuals with special needs.

Our Mission

We ensure individuals with disabilities have the opportunity to experience meaningful days and a self-defined quality of life through individualized support, self-direction, educational opportunities, positive family traditions and community integration.

History

IDTC opened its doors on the north side of Indianapolis to provide services for children and adolescents with developmental and emotional disabilities in October of 1997. Prior to the advent of IDTC, however, children from Indiana were being placed at our Wisconsin-based sister companym, ODTC, since 1975. Through their vision, commitment, and determination to bring the children of Indiana back home for treatment, IDTC was developed. As an extension of Oconomowoc Residential Programs, IDTC shares the same core belief with ODTC that people grow in a safe, nurturing environment with quality, compassionate care.

As IDTC grew it was necessary to expand the services we provided. While children and young adults were making tremendous gains within the residential program, we noticed there was a great need for group home settings for our distinct population to continue working on their skills in a community environment. Thus, IDTC expanded its services to include group homes with the first home, Plum Grove, opening in Carmel, IN, in February of 1999. Since Plum Grove’s opening, even more homes have been added within the Indianapolis and Lafayette areas.

The need for the quality services IDTC provides was so great that a second site was opened in Lafayette, IN, in February of 2000. With the addition of IDTC of Lafayette in the number children and young adults that IDTC was able to provide care for increased to 160 in the year 2000.

Operating an on-grounds school at both sites also led to unique opportunities. IDTC was able to expand into Day School services allowing children within the surrounding communities to live at home while they received the benefit of IDTC’s programming, structure, and special educational experience. Both sites completed renovations to accommodate the increased number of children and young adults during the school day. IDTC in Indianapolis completed the addition of their education building in March of 2005 while IDTC of Lafayette completed an education addition in June of 2007.

With all the growth, IDTC is currently able to serve 218 children and young adults within its residential and community programs, not including the number of individuals that attend Day School at any given time! IDTC has been proud to have helped over 900 children and young adults since opening its doors in 1997.

To continue to ensure that people with developmental disabilities can receive quality, compassionate care throughout their lifetime, Spectrum Community Services of Indiana was added to the family of companies to provide a wide array of services for individuals ranging from (but not limited to) in-home respite services, music therapy, and scattered site apartments.

Our dedication to providing the best possible care for the people we serve is how IDTC has grown to be recognized as one of the top providers for care for people with developmental disabilities.
