Education Services
Indiana Developmental Training Center (IDTC) specializes in providing residential and day services, including pre-vocational and educational services, to children and young adults with dually diagnosed emotional disturbances and intellectual/developmental disabilities.
Children and young adults ages 6-21 are accepted from throughout the United States and meet eligibility requirements for special education and related services. IDTC’s programs are licensed by the State of Indiana Family and Social Services Administration. IDTC's specific areas of expertise are: Treatment of various low incidence disorders, rare genetic disorders, Autism Spectrum disorders, seizures and other neurological handicaps .
IDTC’s mission is to enrich the lives of children, youth and young adults through a comprehensive program of education and treatment designed to provide them with skills necessary to transition to a less restrictive environment. Our treatment program has three integral components: Individual Psychotherapy and Group Therapy, Educational/Vocational Programming, and Independent Living Skills training. The primary treatment goals are individualized to each child’s specific needs and focus on improving self-image and assisting the child in achieving his/her maximum potential in independent living skills.

These individualized goals are outlined in an Individual Treatment Plan and are reviewed every six months by IDTC’s Transdisciplinary Treatment Team (child, parent/legal guardian, Social Worker, teacher, nurse, special therapy staff and youth care staff). An overall cognitive behavioral approach is used in therapy and across the total treatment environment. A variety of other treatment modalities is also used to attain individual treatment goals. Family involvement in the treatment program is encouraged. Family counseling and therapy are also provided.
IDTC offers extended school year services providing 212 instructional days each calendar year. Academic instruction, Independent Life Skills Instruction, Occupational and Speech Therapy, Vocational Education Training, and Positive Behavioral Intervention are part of the educational services offered.
Teachers at IDTC are certified by the State of Indiana in one or more of the following areas: General Education, Elementary Education, Learning Disabilities, Mild Interventions, Severe Interventions and Seriously Emotionally Handicapped. Special therapy staff include registered licensed occupational therapists, certified speech language pathologists, clinical social workers, and Psychologist. The therapists facilitate learning and provide formal diagnostic evaluation and treatment in the areas of perception, processing, sensory motor functioning, neurological integrative skills, communication skills, and adaptive living skills.
Funding for Day School services or residential services is through multiple funding sources, specifically the Indiana Department of Education, Indiana Department of Child Services, Bureau of Developmental Disabilities, Probation or a combination of the above. The trained staff at IDTC will use behavior management plans, set for by the student’s Social Worker or Psychologist, to assist the child in coming to school to actively participate.
Medical appointments, court hearings, and home visits are scheduled through the student’s Social Worker and medical personnel at Indiana Developmental Training Center. Home visits and medical appointments are scheduled, as best possible, around the school calendar.
