Warner School Homecoming

IDTC had their inaugural Homecoming Celebration and official school dedication of Warner School at IDTC on October 16, 2009. The week was full of events and festivities for staff and students. Monday was ‘Spirit Sticker Day’, where the students and staff received Warner School Stickers and learned that spirit means enthusiastic loyalty. Tuesday was ‘Pens and Pencils Pride Day’ which taught everyone the very definition of pride: dignity and self respect. Wednesday was ‘Wear your Warner School Bracelet Day’ in which the word for the day was motivation. On Thursday everyone displayed school spirit by wearing Warner School Tattoos. This day showed us teamwork and eliminated us as individuals and brought our staff and students together as one. Classrooms had to practice teamwork by decorating their classroom doors for a friendly competition. When Friday finally arrived, it was Eagle Pride Day. All of the staff and students wore their Warner School Eagle T-shirts and apparel with pride!

The highlight of this day was the dedication of our school. We officially became Warner School at IDTC. Approximately 35 members of Kasey’s family including his parents, aunts and uncles, grandparents, cousins and friends from Ohio, Michigan and Wisconsin were on site for this momentous occasion along with other friends and families of our current students. The naming of our school is in  memory of Kasey Warner, who was a student here at IDTC in 2002 and whose life was cut short after moving on in 2004. Naming our school in honor of Kasey encompasses what we hope to accomplish with all of our students at IDTC. Difficult situations and behaviors can lead to small successes and then to major milestones. During the ceremony, plaques were presented to the school as well as to Kasey’s mother and father.

After the dedication ceremony, students, staff and guests were able to enjoy the Tailgate Zone which had a digital basketball and football toss, corn hole, nachos, popcorn, cookies, and soda. Our mascot, the Eagle, also walked around greeting the students and guests and posed for pictures with them.

The day ended with two exhibition flag football games that had both staff and students as players. Halftime entertainment consisted of an outrageous relay race between staff members for the students’ enjoyment.

Overall the day was a huge success! It was very special to celebrate it with Kasey Warner’s family, guests, students and staff at IDTC. We are officially Warner School at IDTC! Go Eagles!!
