Meet the Teacher Night

T.C. Harris was excited to host the first annual Meet the Teacher Night on August 6, 2009. This event allowed the parents, care givers, and other important people in our students’ lives the opportunity to view the creative projects the students worked on this summer. Students of all cognitive levels participated in our summer school enrichment program. The school, as a whole student body, looked forward to the educational weekly theme and the special events. Summer school at T.C. Harris is an opportunity to put the books aside and learn through hands on experiences, community outings, music, art, and group projects. The Education Team at T.C. Harris ensures an enthusiastic camp like session that challenges our students to use the skills they have learned throughout the school year to guide them during the summer adventures. Though the way the educational information is presented is unique, the consistency of behavior management, staff, and schedules remain consistent to assist our students. The highlights of the summer included: bowling, swimming, cake decorating contest, musical talent shows, ballet lessons, private art lessons provided by an instructor from the Lafayette Art Museum, and student photography projects.

Meet the Teacher Night was also an opportunity to discuss a student’s individual progress with their current teacher (as well as a chance to meet the student’s new teacher for the fall). Each teacher displayed all of the innovative projects from the summer. These were presented for the visitors to view and keep. Students were present to explain their work and speak with their new teacher for the fall. The event was a success and we were thrilled to see the incredible level of support for our students. The T.C. Harris Education team is honored to be able to work with such exceptional students.
