Summer Fun Day

On June 5, 2009, IDTC hosted our annual Summer Fun Day. This year, the committee decided to create a carnival themed day for the residents and families to participate in. Included in Summer Fun Day was a cookout with hot dogs, hamburgers, brats, potato salad, baked beans, watermelon, and chips. All of the courtyards and both gyms housed various carnival-style games in which participants could win tickets to purchase prizes at the end of the evening.

IDTC obtained a dunk tank in which staff sat inside and allowed residents to knock them into the chilly water below. The residents always enjoy this activity and find great humor in dunking the staff. The building also supplied an “Eliminator”, which is a huge inflatable obstacle course. Residents could race through the course, over walls and through tunnels to see who came out on top. Other games included: The Grand Prize Game, Sure Shot (Cornhole), Bowling Bash, Cookie Walk, Sticky Darts, Basket Toss, Chugg Toss, Fish Bowl Challenge, Ring Toss, Duck Pond, etc. IDTC rented a cotton candy machine, utilized their popcorn machine and provided temporary tattoos for the residents. In addition to the carnival-themed events, a local therapeutic riding center (AGAPE) brought a miniature pony for residents and families to walk, groom, and play games with. 

This year’s Summer Fun Day was extremely successful and everyone had a fantastic time! This year’s events will be hard to top, but we are always up for the challenge next year!
